Key Responsibilities
- Oversee compliance with the company’s safety program, ensuring adherence to legislative requirements and promoting safety awareness through regular audits, training, and proactive risk management. Collaborate with the safety team to investigate incidents and near-misses.
- Cultivate a positive culture by establishing consistent expectations for safety, work ethic, professionalism, and accountability in fulfilling role responsibilities. Demonstrate pride in the district and its achievements.
- Drive strategic talent management initiatives by attracting, developing, and retaining top talent, fostering employee engagement, and integrating robust succession planning to build future leaders. Implement targeted strategies to accelerate the development of high-potential employees and address underperformance, ensuring sustained organizational growth.
- Lead others by providing direction, experience and development. Communicate company policies, procedures and objectives. Hold leaders accountable for their role and associated actions and results.
- Lead by example in customer service and ensure follow-up on customer issues.
- Establish and maintain team adherence to processes that achieve results consistent with company operating principles. Champion continuous improvement.
- Ensure the district’s daily operations run efficiently and cost-effectively and meet financial commitments including target EBIT dollars and gross margin percent goals across all lines of business.
- Oversee profit and loss (P&L) and utilize accounting reports and dashboards to evaluate each department’s performance, ensuring that monthly budgetary targets are achieved. Conduct operations reviews.
- Advocate for meaningful change with the ability to motivate, integrate, and achieve change acceptance.
- Collaborate with sales managers to expand the customer base. Engage actively and leverage personal relationships to achieve growth.
- Review and authorize revenue and margins before sales proposals are submitted. Supervises and approves sales incentives, while promoting the use of CRM systems.
- Oversee retention of service contracts including direct involvement in all “at risk” customer accounts.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with stakeholders, including consultants, building owners, property managers and unions.
- Oversee and ensure that the employee performance process for both union and non-union employees is performed timely and consistently.
- Recognize and reward employees aligned with company operating procedures and practices.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the market, including sales backlog, service and repair volume, market penetration, volume of outstanding bids, available new business, projects, and staffing requirements. Possess thorough knowledge of competitors’ strengths and weaknesses.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of federal, provincial, and local elevator industry codes, as well as employment and labour laws, ensuring compliance and effectively implementing regulatory and industry-standard processes.
- Maintain strong familiarity with company products by attending company training classes and reviewing factory equipment updates and supplier goods.
- Maintain a maintaining a strong working knowledge of workforce labour agreements.
- Work as a dependable and continuous improvement leader with various teams within Canada and North America to achieve meaningful outcomes (e.g. operations, sales, finance, contracts, supply chain, legal, HR).
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Self-starter that can lead through ambiguity and rise above adversity.
- Elevator and/or construction industry experience.
- Strong general management experience with a solid understanding of P&L.
- Bachelor’s degree (only to be substituted with extensive industry and management experience); or two years of experience managing on a branch departmental level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven success in building teams and leading and developing people.
- The ability to define problems collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions to recommend and act on.
- Respectfully challenges the status quo in search of improved ways to meet employee and customer needs.
- Accountable – looks to deal with challenges and tackle them with informed plans. Avoids blame.
