About the Role
Reporting to a Partner(s), the Director/Associate Partner of taxation will play a critical role in overseeing various aspects of the firm’s operations, client engagements and team members.
This role will offer a challenging and diverse range of responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Performing/participating in tax reorganizations/structuring for private corporations, groups of companies and partnerships, including drafting of tax memorandums.
- Review of various types of tax elections.
- Conducting tax research on existing and new tax rules.
- Participate in cross-border compliance, planning and structuring.
- Liaison with the US tax group to ensure cross-border tax planning efficiencies.
- Evaluate and determine FAPI implications, exempt surplus and other related matters.
- Identifying tax opportunities in accordance with current tax laws.
- Reviewing corporate income tax returns (T2), partnership returns (T5013), trust returns (T3), information filings (T4s and T5s) and high net worth personal tax returns (T1).
- Reviewing T1134s, T1135s, T106 and other similar forms for foreign reporting.
- Making presentations to partners and staff to educate them on new tax rules and budget updates, and preparing blogs for the firm’s website on various tax topics.
- Professional interaction with clients, CRA, and staff.
- Collaborating with the senior leadership team to ensure establishment and commitment to firm standards.
- Scheduling, supervising, training, and mentoring junior staff.
Relevant Qualifications and Experience
- CPA, CA, or equivalent designation.
- Completed in-depth tax courses I, II, & III or Master’s in Taxation
- 12+ years of public accounting experience with exposure to the Canadian tax engagements at a similar-sized firm.
- At least 8+ years of experience at the manager, senior manager and director level.
- Cross-border tax exposure will be an asset.
- Proficiency in both corporate and personal Canadian income tax.
- Strong technical skills in CCH, Caseware, Caseview, TaxPrep, and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong business acumen, organization and time-management abilities and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A high level of integrity, commitment, and professionalism.
Compensation and Renumeration
This position offers a base salary of $170,000 – $200,000 (depending on experience), health insurance, four weeks of vacation, mileage allowance, and professional dues.
