The Role: Strategic Financial Leadership That Advances Care, Innovation, and Impact
The Geneva Centre for Autism (GCA) is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and mission-driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide enterprise-level financial leadership across the organization and its Foundation.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and serving as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CFO plays a critical role in ensuring financial sustainability, operational excellence, and alignment with GCA’s strategic priorities, mission, vision, and values.
This is a pivotal leadership role within a complex not-for-profit environment, supporting a diverse funding model that includes government funding, grants, fee-based services, and innovative digital offerings such as Sonderly e-learning.
The CFO will help shape pricing strategies, strengthen financial governance, and partner with leadership and the Board to ensure long-term organizational resilience and impact.
As Chief Financial Officer, you will have enterprise-wide accountability for financial strategy, planning, reporting, risk management, contracts, and compliance across GCA and its Foundation.
You will advise the CEO and the Board on financial performance, opportunities, and risks, and enable informed decision-making through strong financial insight and business intelligence.
A key priority for this role is leading pricing strategy and implementation for fee-based programs, services, and digital learning offerings, ensuring financial sustainability while maintaining accessibility and mission alignment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership and Governance:
- Serve as a core member of the Executive Leadership Team, contributing to organizational strategy, operating models, and execution.
- Monitor the organization’s financial health and long-term viability, proactively identifying risks, variances, and opportunities.
- Engage with the Board of Directors and its Finance, Audit, and Investment Committees on financial performance, trends, and strategic implications.
Financial Management, Reporting, and Compliance:
- Oversee annual operating budgets, multi-year financial planning, and forecasting for GCA and its Foundation.
- Lead the annual audit process in partnership with the Finance and Audit Committee.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, contractual, and funder reporting requirements.
- Maintain strong internal controls, financial policies, and risk management frameworks.
Revenue Strategy, Pricing, and Business Intelligence:
- Advise the CEO on revenue optimization opportunities and diversification strategies.
- Lead pricing models, costings, and financial modelling for fee-based programs and services.
- Partner with leadership to develop business intelligence and data-driven insights to support decision-making.
Leadership, Culture, and Operations:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team, fostering continuous improvement and strong internal service.
- Support and coach the Director and team members to ensure operational excellence and professional growth.
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across programs, operations, and leadership.
External Representation:
- Represent GCA with funders, external agencies, community partners, and other stakeholders as required.
The Ideal Candidate
You are a seasoned financial executive with:
- 10+ years of progressive experience, including 5+ years in a senior executive or C-suite role.
- Proven experience in a not-for-profit or public-sector environment, ideally within healthcare, professional services, or a related field.
- Experience in the private sector, particularly in revenue-generating or growth-oriented environments, is strongly valued.
- CPA, CA designation and strong knowledge of Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO).
- Demonstrated experience with grant funding, complex budgets, and funder reporting.
- A strong track record as a strategic business partner, advisor, and influencer.
- Experience working closely with Boards and Board committees.
- Experience supporting real estate strategy, capital planning, and organizational growth initiatives, including mergers, acquisitions, or strategic partnerships, is considered an asset
- A collaborative, values-driven leadership style with excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong people leadership capabilities, with experience managing teams and multiple priorities.
Working Environment
- Hybrid role with a strong in-office presence
- Four (4) days of work per week, with a minimum of two (2) days onsite
- Office location: 124 Merton Street, Toronto
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary: $140,000-$180,000
- Annual bonus: Target 10%
- RRSP contribution: 5%
