The Role: Driving People Strategy at the Heart of Operations
Toromont Cat is seeking a proactive, business-minded Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to support leaders in delivering strong people and culture outcomes.
You will work side-by-side with leaders and teams, helping shape a positive workplace where people feel supported, motivated, and empowered to succeed.
In this role, you will serve as a trusted advisor, helping operational leaders translate business priorities into effective people strategies.
You will influence decision-making by providing insight and guidance on HR initiatives that drive performance, engagement, and development.
You will lead and support a broad range of HR activities, including employee relations, performance management, succession planning, HR policy interpretation, and compliance with employment legislation.
By partnering closely with leaders, you will help identify opportunities to strengthen team capability, address workforce challenges, and implement initiatives that improve organizational effectiveness.
The HRBP will also play a central role in talent development and culture initiatives.
You will advise on employee growth and career progression, support leadership in building high-performing teams, and contribute to programs that enhance engagement and retention.
Your work will directly impact Toromont Cat’s ability to attract, develop, and retain top talent and to foster a positive, inclusive workplace.
Key Responsibilities
HR Compliance and Process Excellence:
- Ensure compliance with HR legislation, including Employment Standards, Human Rights, and related regulations.
- Deliver HR processes accurately and efficiently in alignment with company policies and procedures.
- Support health and safety, disability management, compensation, benefits, and organizational development initiatives.
- Lead workplace investigations through all stages of the investigative process with minimal supervision.
Strategic Business Partnership:
- Partner with leaders to support their people and culture goals and overall business objectives.
- Provide timely and practical HR guidance to address workforce challenges and support decision-making.
- Support performance management initiatives and help drive successful business outcomes.
- Recommend and contribute to initiatives that strengthen organizational effectiveness and team performance.
- Work closely with colleagues across HR and operations, fostering teamwork, coaching leaders, and sharing best practices.
Talent Development and Succession Planning:
- Advise leaders on identifying and developing high-potential employees.
- Support succession planning initiatives to build internal talent pipelines.
- Promote and model Toromont Cat’s vision for people and culture consistently and proactively.
- Assist in designing and implementing programs that enhance engagement, retention, and professional growth.
The Ideal Candidate
You are an experienced and proactive HR professional with:
- A bachelor’s degree or post-secondary education in human resources management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least five years of progressive HR experience, with experience in a unionized environment strongly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of HR legislation, collective agreements, employee relations, performance management, recruitment, health and safety, disability management, compensation, benefits, and organizational development.
- An HR designation or progress toward certification is considered an asset.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to partner with leaders to achieve successful outcomes.
- Proven ability to provide guidance on complex labour relations matters while supporting business priorities.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and shifting demands while maintaining focus on people strategy and talent development.
- Collaborative, values-driven approach with a commitment to fostering engagement, retention, and a positive workplace culture.
- Bilingual in French and English, considered an asset.
Working Environment
- Full-time, permanent position; primarily in-office, four days per week
- Approximately 20% travel to support client groups and operational locations
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary: $77,000 – $96,500.
- Annual performance-based bonus tied to company and individual results.
- Paid time off: 3 weeks of vacation, 6 sick days per year, and 3 flexible days per year.
- Defined Savings Plan (DSP) with company match up to 2.5%.
- Employee Share Purchase Plan with contributions up to 7% and a company match of 3%.
