Sioux Lookout Hydro is a municipally owned electricity distributor, providing electricity to approximately 3,000 homes and businesses across 540 square kilometres, with over 700 kilometres of local distribution lines in the Municipality of Sioux Lookout and Hudson, Ontario.
Sioux Lookout Hydro provides professional customer service, meter reading, 24-hour emergency outage response, net metering, tree trimming, streetlight maintenance, underground cable locates and residential/commercial hookups with excellent performance metrics, including 99% on-time new service connections, 99.9% billing accuracy, minimal outages (0.35 h/year) and highly efficient cost controls.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The President/CEO is responsible for guiding the successful operation of Sioux Lookout Hydro to meet the mandate set out by the Shareholders and to achieve the goals established by the Board of Directors.
The President/CEO provides regular reports on the organization’s progress to the Board of Directors.
As a visionary, the President/CEO is directly responsible for the health and performance of the organization, the success of its operations, and strategic planning.
Internally, the President/CEO focuses on improvements to the organization’s business model to ensure maximum productivity and revenue.
Externally, the President/CEO establishes key long-term relationships with business partners that enhance the organization’s profitability and market position, and provides financial leadership by managing budgets and monitoring long-term strategic fiscal plans.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate and meet regularly with the Board of Directors to develop strategic plans for the organization.
- Develop and implement short and long-term tactical and strategic plans in accordance with business goals and objectives.
- Regularly report to the Board of Directors on the company’s status against, and ability to meet, its strategic business activities, potential threats, opportunities, recommended actions, and operational objectives.
- Provide guidance, assistance, and leadership to staff to achieve maximum productivity and promote a positive, professional work environment that adheres to safety rules and maintains customer trust.
- Implement a succession plan and procedures for the replacement of staff.
- Meet regularly and supervise departments (inside and outside staff) and facilitate the resolution of issues and problems between business units and/or departments.
- Develop and implement improvements in processes, tools, equipment, and methods to increase safety, quality, customer satisfaction and cost-effectiveness.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with strategic business partners, including the Electricity Distributors Association (EDA), Municipal, Federal Government, suppliers, wholesalers, and retailers.
- Provide expertise and guidance in problem identification, analysis, and resolution.
- Implement and manage a program for monitoring regulatory compliance and prepare and submit all rate applications.
- Appointed by the Sioux Lookout Hydro Inc. Board of Directors, the President/CEO serves on the Board of EDA Northwest, requiring regular travel and meetings.
- Coordinate and confer with operations staff to resolve operating problems and difficulties, and authorize department operational procedures within the corporate framework.
REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALITIES, AND EXPERIENCE
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Energy Board’s regulating framework for electricity distributors.
- Minimum of 5 years of project and team leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of fiscal management and responsibility, business finance, capital funding, contracts, and partnerships. A CPA designation (or currently enrolled in a CPA program) would be considered an asset.
- Experience creating and managing budgets for a small, distributed organization.
- Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills and the ability to manage key constituent relationships, including customers, business partners, and government agencies.
- Familiarity with OSHA, EUSA Rule Book, Utility Work Protection Code, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
- Sound understanding of risk management and hydro service policies, practices, and procedures.
- High attention to detail and accuracy with sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
- Strong sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
- Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, and proven ability to work in a collaborative environment.
